Ninth grade phycsics taught us all that “for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction,” and today most Marketers still live by that lesson. The action – the response to activity on the web – is at the core of Web Analytics. Afterall, if you’re not using web analytics to take action, then web analytics is useless! Web Analysis means taking the data from web analytics and using it to make changes to your site and making smart business decisions.

Statistical models, coefficients and web trends are great but if they don't relate to how you are conducting business with consumers and your partners and if they do not result in ACTIONS, then you need to come back to the drawing board and try again...and again...and again. History will repeat itself if you don't pay attention to it the first time.
It may have simply started with Web Analytics tools , with names you know like Omniture, Google Analytics and WebTrends and then came Competor analysis and media planning tools like Hitwise, Compete, Alex and Quantcast.
